An essential component of our corporate social responsibility is to
care for the underprivileged and challenged sections of our society. We
endeavor to make a positive contribution by supporting a range of
socio-economic, educational and related initiatives. Many of the
community projects and programs are driven by active participation from
our employees. Nurturing experiences and personal opportunities are
also provided for those in the community who have little or no access
to any assistance.
The company has been promoting recognition of gifted but challenged
people in different spheres. The first initiative was the dedication of
calendar for 2003 to Rasa, an organisation dedicated to
rehabilitating children / adults with special needs using theatre
arts. The
calendar for 2006 was dedicated to 30 year old Udayakumar a Spinal Muscular Atrophy patient with a flair for painting. Similarly, the calendar for 2007 featured paintings by two brave young artists 30 year old Narasimhalu (afflicted with cerebral palsy) and Janarthanan (15 year old who lost both hands and one leg). The
calendar for 2008 featuring excellent paintings and sketches is dedicated to Mehatab Alam, a 17 year old autistic person with mild mental retardation and an artist par excellence.
As a first step towards a direct help, we inducted two physically
challenged persons into our organisation in 2006 with plans to raise
the numbers to at least 5 by 2008.
Education has been and continues to be a primary focus area for the
company. A start has been made by instituting two scholarships for
students from Government schools to pursue a career in Engineering by
taking care of all the tuition expenses for the entire duration of the
four year course. Plans are on the anvil to set up an educational charitable trust.
An initiative like feeding at orphanages has been a regular annual
feature for the past several years with total participation by the
employees. Free footwear for young school going children has been
started this year. Talks are on with NGOs to formalise and corporatise
these initiatives.
